How to Get Matte Skin Without Makeup

It can be quite difficult to achieve matte skin with many triggers, such as sweat and naturally oily skin. But not to worry, as it isn’t entirely possible with the right tips! Follow these ways on how to get matte skin without makeup:

1. Use the Right Cleanser and Toner

You need to have the right skincare products, starting with a good cleanser and toner. Your cleanser should have salicylic acid in it, as this can maintain your skin’s moisture barrier. It also removes excess oil from the skin for a matte look.

As for your toner, be sure that it’s oil-regulating and/or magnifying. This will balance your skin’s pH balance and regulate and oil production to further clear your skin.

2. Protect Your Skin

The sun’s UV rays can be the culprit to an oilier and sweatier face. Plus, it can end up damaging your skin, causing acne and blemishes! So make sure that you’re always using sunscreen before you leave the home, even if it’s a cloudy day.

Sunscreen protects your skin and prevents it from greasing up. It can control the oil and shine to maintain and further moisturize matte skin.

3. Use All OIL-FREE Products

The one thing that keeps people from achieving matte skin is oil. You get oil with your skin naturally producing it, the sun and sweat, and even the products you use!

Have magnifying skincare products that are free from oil. It’s best to find skincare products made for oily skin or promotes magnifying quality. This regulates oil production, keeping your skin moisturized without it looking too dewy or shiny.

4. Have a Healthier Diet and Stay Hydrated

You are what you eat, and your skin will be affected by whatever junk you consume! To prevent sweating and excessive oil production, I recommend that you avoid eating spicy foods that can cause blood vessels to dilate, which causes further perspiration and oily skin.

The same goes for any alcoholic drink, as this can cause you to sweat a bit and/or make the skin look oilier. Avoid this as much as you can and only consume small amounts of it if you must.

Furthermore, stay hydrated with at least eight glasses of water a day to hydrate your skin. This regulates your skin’s oil production as your skin won’t need to produce oil to stay hydrated.

5. What’s Your Moisturizer?

You should also use a quality moisturizer to keep your skin less prone to excess oil production to keep the skin looking and feeling matte. I recommend that you go for moisturizers that contain hyaluronic acid to hydrate your skin.

Besides that, you may want to go for a lighter moisturizer, as the heavier the product, the dewier your face looks. Go for hydrating serums or lotions to gain a better matte effect.

6. Using Face Masks

There are many types of face masks you can use to help maintain oil production and moisturize the face, such as:

  • Clay masks absorb your skin’s excess oils, with your face looking oil-free and matte
  • Make your honey mask during your skincare routine. Because it is a natural humectant, it can draw water to moisture the skin, preventing excess oil production
  • Oatmeal masks can also help absorb oil excellently, as well as exfoliate your skin to leave it clear
  • Egg white and lemon masks tighten your pores to release less oil to your skin. It also absorbs excess oil!

Leave these masks on your face for 20 minutes a few times a week after your skincare routine, rinsing it off completely afterward.

Take note that these aren’t permanent solutions to get matte skin, as your skin type depends on genetics. But with the proper care, you can maintain matte skin and keep your skin healthier and clearer.
