what to do if you get white pimples after waxing

Waxing is an ideal choice when it comes to hair removal methods, though slightly painful at first. While it’s a quick way to remove hair successfully, it makes your skin more prone to acne breakouts from various causes.

While normal, you shouldn’t have to live with these pimples and bumps! There are ways to remedy them and envy prevent breakouts from happening again during your next waxing session.

But how? Read on as I show you different advice on what to do if you get white pimples after waxing.

What to Do If You Get White Pimples After Waxing

Getting bumps, rashes, pimples, or other blemishes after waxing is normal, though irritating. This is because when your body hair is removed forcefully, it would cause some stress to the surrounding skin.

It can show immediately after waxing or a week after. Either way, no one wants to see raised white bumps or pimples after waxing! Fortunately, there are ways to treat and prevent them from coming back.

You can follow these six effective remedies:

1. Use Natural Remedies and Ingredients

There are natural remedies you can try, using things you have at home! Here are the five effective ingredients you can try:

  • Aloe vera is known as a helpful remedy that treats waxing bumps, especially on body parts such as the chest, legs, and bikini line. This is because aloe vera soothes itching and inflammation, also moisturizing and hydrating the skin.
  • Tea tree oil is one of the top essential oils that help treat waxing bumps. It can prevent any infections and speed up your skin’s natural healing process with its antibacterial and antiviral properties.
  • Apple cider vinegar is a versatile ingredient that can also be used to treat bikini wax bumps or bumps on the face. ACV has astringent and antiseptic properties which can balance your skin’s pH levels and reduce inflammation.
  • Witch hazel is a great ingredient to use as post-wax care, as it’s a coolant to help soothe your skin. It contains anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and astringent properties, suitable for white pimples on your upper lip!
  • You can try coconut oil, though this is best used as a preventative measure rather than for post-wax remedies. It can soothe inflamed and/or red skin, also moisturizing the skin, and has antioxidants that speed up the recovery process after waxing.

2. Exfoliate and Cleanse Your Skin

If you notice the white pimples, cleanse your skin properly, using a gentle soap and warm water. Make sure that you pat your skin dry using a soft towel. This can minimize irritants and prevent further irritation.

Afterward, moisturize your skin to hydrate it, which soothes irritated skin after waxing, as well as reduce inflammation.

3. Wear Loose Clothing

When you wear loose clothing for around two days after waxing, it helps keep your clothes’ fibers from rubbing against your skin, which irritates.

Besides wearing loose clothing, I also recommend that you do NOT touch the waxed and affected areas. It may be tempting to poke or pump the white pimples, but this can lead to fighter irritation and redness. It may even cause infection if your hands are not clean.

Also, avoid using perfumed products and makeup after your waxing session for up to 24 hours. This is especially for those with sensitive skin, as it can further irritate the skin and worsen the bumps.

4. Use Cold Compresses and Avoid the Heat

Applying a cold compress is a simple yet effective step to take for wax care. This is because the cold can naturally calm inflammation, speeding up the healing process of those post-waxing bumps.

All you need to do is to apply a cold compress to the affected areas for only up to 20 minutes. You’ll see that the bumps are “calming down.” However, take note that while this is helpful, it won’t completely have those bumps disappear.

Furthermore, I recommend that you avoid heat as much as possible, which can aggravate the skin and worsen the bumps. Stay away from any hot environments, avoid hot showers or baths after waxing, and don’t do any strenuous activity that causes sweat for the next 24 hours.

5. Medical Treatments and Over-the-Counter Products

Are the bumps worsening and even showing signs of infection despite trying the tips mentioned above? If it has been going on for over three days after waxing, it’s best to go to your doctor to have it checked.

He can prescribe antibiotic ointments or oral medicine to treat any infection, which prevents bacteria from growing and/or kill existing bacteria to reduce the pimples.

There are also over-the-counter products you can use, such as hydrocortisone cream, which is a topical steroid cream to reduce irritation after the waxing session. You can also use an astringent after waxing to reduce inflammation and cool your skin, dabbing the astringent (on a cotton ball) softly on the freshly-waxed area.

6. Prevention Is Better Than Cure!

Beyond these steps, you should also learn how to prevent the pimples from happening in the first place.

Make sure that you exfoliate using a sugar scrub before waxing to get rid of dead skin cells, dirt, and other impurities that clog the pores. It will make it easier to pull hair out during waxing and prevents the formation of bumps.
